Jones Day’s Dallas Office traces its roots to 1981, when approximately 15 Partners and Associates from the Cleveland Office moved to Dallas and joined with about 20 lawyers from the Dallas firm of Meyers, Miller, Middleton, Weiner & Warren to open Jones Day’s fifth office. Today, nearly 200 lawyers provide a full range of Firm services to Texas, national and international clients, creating a challenging and rewarding environment for our lawyers and staff.
The Dallas Office has substantial capability in litigation, corporate and real estate transactions, and tax. Major areas of focus for litigation include intellectual property, product liability, commercial litigation, quasi criminal and criminal investigations, securities litigation/corporate governance, labor and employment, and toxic tort. The Dallas Office transactional practice has similar breadth, including banking and finance, business reorganization and restructuring, health care, mergers and acquisitions and private equity. Our lawyers are also involved in projects across all sectors of the real estate business, including acquisitions and dispositions, debt and equity financings, distressed real estate transactions, leasing and asset management, development, joint ventures, real estate M&A and cross-border investment, real estate outsourcings, global infrastructure projects, and regulatory land planning. The Dallas Office is also home to the leading experts in federal and state tax, as well as in employee benefits and executive compensation. Recent representations have included defending Mattel, Inc., in actions brought in the U.S. after Mattel’s 2007 toy recalls; representing Hunt Petroleum and its related entities in connection with its agreement to merge with an affiliate of XTO Energy for approximately $4.2 billion in cash and XTO common stock, which Oil and Gas Investor gave its “Best M&A Deal” award for 2008; advising Toni & Guy’s Mascolo Brothers Limited in its $411.5 million sale of the global TIGI professional hair product business and its supporting advanced education academies to Unilever; and obtaining dismissal of federal securities claims against Dell, Inc.
Lawyers from Dallas routinely work with lawyers from across the Firm’s 32 offices to bring the right experience and knowledge to respond to client needs. As a result, associates in Dallas have the opportunity to work with experts in multiple fields from across the Firm and to be involved routinely in matters of local, national and international scope.
We are very much a part of the business, civic and professional communities in Dallas and the Firm supports an impressive range of academic, civic and charitable institutions throughout Texas. The lawyers in the Dallas Office have contributed generously of their time and talents to help improve the quality of life in the community in which they live and work. Our lawyers contribute voluntary service and serve on boards and committees of over 140 charitable and civic organizations.
Specifically, the Dallas Office recently was recognized with the following awards by the United Way: Pacesetter Best Practices Award; Tocqueville Giving Award; and Pacesetter of the Year Award.
