Jones Day San Francisco is as special and varied as the geography that surrounds it.  First opened in May 2003 with five lawyers, we’ve grown steadily to more than 80 lawyers, with a mix of transplants from other Jones Day offices, laterals from other Bay Area firms, and an ever increasing number of recent law school graduates who were Summer Associates with us in the past.  Our diversity extends beyond just the professional origins of our lawyers and we are proud of our lawyers’ varied practices, personalities and interests.  You are just as apt to find a Litigation Associate who surfs Half Moon Bay on summer mornings before work, as a Real Estate Partner who bottles his own wine.  Despite these distinctions, we are unified by our commitment to excellence in client services and in our commitment to each other.

As a relatively newer and smaller office, yet with the institutional strength that comes from being part of one of the world’s best and largest law firms, we believe we offer our lawyers the best of both worlds.  We value the camaraderie, entrepreneurial spirit, and informal atmosphere that comes from a smaller-office setting; yet we also enjoy the international opportunities, immense resources and professional capacities provided by the additional 2,500 Jones Day lawyers outside of San Francisco.  Moreover, as part of Jones Day’s “One Firm Worldwide” system, our practice opportunities are not limited to the four walls of our office and you are as likely to have the opportunity to work with colleagues in New York, London or Beijing as with the lawyer in the office down the hall.

We have grown to offer a full range of legal services.  Our litigation practices range from antitrust and international human rights litigation, to labor and employment litigation, intellectual property, white collar crime, insurance recovery and appellate work.  Our corporate practices have expanded substantially in recent years to include mergers and acquisitions, private equity, real estate, bankruptcy, banking and finance and tax practices.  The Firm’s focus on California, and the rapid expansion of the San Francisco office based upon our success, has provided our more junior lawyers with tremendous opportunities on cases and deals alike.  Our Associates have taken depositions overseas, argued motions at trial and taken principal responsibility on deals.  There are no artificial limitations here and our lawyers are provided with opportunities commensurate with their substantial talents.
