When Jones Day opened its Shanghai Office in 1999, it was the only fully integrated global law firm with offices in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.  Today the Firm has an office in Beijing as well and boasts more than 40 legal professionals in Shanghai alone.  A full service office, Jones Day Shanghai focuses on foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions, sale and restructuring of state and foreign-owned assets, antitrust and competition, intellectual property, construction, employment, real estate, and other corporate and finance matters in China for U.S., European, and Asian companies.  Our Shanghai lawyers also represent a number of Chinese companies with respect to their investments and business activities, both in Mainland China and abroad.

Lawyers in our Shanghai Office work closely with M&A, antitrust and competition, intellectual property, employment, real estate, capital markets, private equity, and restructuring lawyers in the Firm's three additional Greater China offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Taipei, to provide the range of legal services an international company may need.  Our clients also have seamless access to the Firm’s substantial legal resources in our fully-integrated global network of more than 2,500 lawyers in 32 offices in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.

While we are fully committed to serving our clients, we remain equally committed to legal development in China.  The Jones Day International Legal Fellowship developed as a result of that commitment.  Since 2001, Jones Day has awarded 65 Fellowships to legal students in Shanghai and 30 Fellowships to law students in Beijing.  The Firm grants these Fellowships in the hope that the recipients will use the money to support their education and experience in whichever legal areas they choose to pursue.
