Jones Day London FAQs

FAQs

FAQs

Q. How many apprentices are you recruiting?
A. We are currently closed for applications. We do not anticipate having any apprenticeship vacancies until September 2021. Please monitor our website from November 2020 if you are interested in a September 2021 start. We will likely open applications for our September 2021 Legal Apprenticeships in December 2020 with a closing deadline in January 2021.

Q. Do you look at applications on a rolling basis?
A. Yes we do. We recommend you apply as soon as you are ready. The closing date for applications is generally in early January.

Q. Is there a second opportunity to apply if I miss the first deadline?
A. If we do not fill our vacancies following our Winter open morning and interview round we will re-open applications in early Spring. Please monitor our website then if you remain interested.

Q. What if I haven't done very well in my exams?
A. Our minimum academic criteria are AAB at A level (predicted or gained) and 5 GCSE’s (including Maths and English) at Grade B or above (or equivalent). However, we realise some have experienced mitigating circumstances which have led to lower than expected performance. In this case, we would ask you to provide an explanation in your covering letter which can be supported by your school referee.

Q. What format does the open morning take?
A. The 2 hour open morning consists of interactive talks and workshops about our apprenticeship scheme designed to enable you to ask questions and learn more about our Firm, our apprenticeship programme and the work you will do in order to see whether it is likely to suit you.

Q. What format does the interview take?
A. The first interview will follow our 2 hour open morning after a break for coffee/tea. The interview will be with two lawyers and will last approximately 30 minutes. The interviewers will be assessing candidates against the competencies that are essential to be a successful apprentice at Jones Day. During the open morning, all candidates have the chance to meet our current apprentices, see round our offices and answer any questions you may have about life at Jones Day.

Q. Do you offer your apprentices overseas placements or the chance to work abroad?
A. You will study and work in London throughout your apprenticeship programme. We are a global law firm with offices around the world staffed by locally qualified lawyers in each jurisdiction. Lawyers in our London office work with lawyers and clients all over the world so opportunities for travel abroad may arise on specific transactions and/or to meet international clients and colleagues as your responsibilities and experience develop in the final 2 years of the Solicitor Apprenticeship.

Q. Are there any apprenticeship opportunities in your overseas offices?
A. Not at present. If you are interested in opportunities abroad please contact/visit the website of the relevant overseas office.
