Your Route to Qualification
Your Route To Qualification
The diagram above shows the key milestones on your route to qualification no matter what your background is.
2 year Paralegal Apprenticeship
Assuming your application is successful, you will commence your first 2 year Apprenticeship towards the end of September and study (one day a week) towards achievement of the Paralegal Apprenticeship Standard and the Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education whilst working at Jones Day’s London offices (4 days a week). The Level 4 Certificate (equivalent to the first year of University) means you can complete the Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship (equivalent to a Master degree) in 5 years instead of 6.
5 year Solicitor Apprenticeship
Assuming you successfully achieve the Paralegal Apprenticeship standard and the Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education, we anticipate you will then enter a further 5 year, degree incorporating, Solicitor Apprenticeship which will enable you to continue working at Jones Day, within the apprenticeship framework, whilst studying for an LLB Hons Law Degree as well as the two-part Solicitors' final centralized assessment – the Solicitors’ Qualification Exam (SQE). In the last 2 years of the Solicitor Apprenticeship, we intend our Solicitor Apprentices to integrate with our graduate trainees on our distinctive, non-rotational training programme so that apprentices undertake trainee equivalent work and learning.
Admission as a Qualified Solicitor
If you successfully achieve both your LLB Hons Law Degree and the two-part SQE and qualify as a solicitor, your performance has been good, and there are vacancies in the practice area in which you wish to qualify, you will begin your future career with us as a fully-fledged solicitor.
